Getting Started at the Gold Swim School.

Everything you need to know before your first splash.

A swim lesson at an indoor pool shows a female instructor helping a child in the water, while other children sit on the poolside watching. The background features a mural of aquatic life.

First Day Expectations

  • Check-In Process:
When you arrive at Gold Swim School, our instructor staff will verify your child’s registration by calling their name. Arrive a few minutes early to allow your child time to acclimate to the pool environment.

  • What to Bring:
Bring a swimsuit, towel, goggles, and swim cap (if desired). For Parent-Tot classes, parents should also wear swim-appropriate attire. Children under the age of 4 are required to wear a swim diaper. Please feel free to bring a small comfort item if your child is new to swimming.

  • Lesson Structure:
Each lesson is carefully planned to balance skill development and fun. Your child will participate in warm-ups, skill-focused exercises, and engaging games. Instructors provide individualized attention, ensuring every child is safe and progressing at their own pace.

  • Pool Rules & Etiquette:
Children and parents should listen to the instructor and site supervisor and follow pool safety rules. This includes no running on deck, using handrails, and entering/exiting the pool safely. Encourage your child to respect other swimmers and the pool environment.

Swim Gear Guide

  • Recommended Equipment:

    • Swimsuits: Comfortable, properly fitting suits that allow freedom of movement.

    • Goggles: Ensure a secure fit without fogging. Goggles help children feel confident under water.

    • Swim Caps: Optional for long hair; helps keep hair out of the face.

    • Towels & Flip-Flops: Quick-drying towels for post-class use and non-slip flip-flops for walking on pool decks.

  • Tips for Comfort & Confidence:

    • Encourage your child to practice putting on goggles and caps at home to reduce first-day anxiety.

    • Bring a small bag for all gear to help your child feel independent and organized.

    • Label all items clearly to prevent mix-ups with other swimmers.

Pool Safety for Parents

  • Supervision Guidelines:
Parents should remain attentive and nearby during lessons (in the lobby area), especially for younger swimmers. Observe quietly unless the instructor or site supervisor asks for help, and refrain from entering the pool unless required by a Parent-Tot class. For some parents, we may ask that they step away from the eye line of their child.

  • Understanding Staff Roles:
Our site supervisors, front desk staff and instructors are trained to maintain a safe environment. Parents should respect their authority and follow their guidance to keep the pool safe for everyone.

  • Family Observation & Interaction:

    • Cheer and encourage your child from the lobby and after the lesson on the pool deck without distracting the lesson.

    • Ask questions or provide feedback after class, not during instruction, to ensure the focus stays on the children—unless speaking with the site supervisor.

    • Teach your child to wait for the instructor’s direction before entering or exiting the pool.
